A Great Sailing Experience
Reviewed by ejf on 2009-08-09T19:52:49Z

I first met Captain Ed four summers ago when my wife gave me his 4 sailing classes as a birthday gift. I returned the favor by getting lessons for my wife. Since then, we have taken many charters with Ed including trips to Rockport and the Isles of Shoals. Ed provides a lot of hands on instruction, encouragement, and humor during each sail. Everyone on board has ample time being at the helm as well as handling the sheets, and even though each of the classes has a focus (basic sailing, navigation, night sailing), one picks up much more depending on the circumstances encountered during the sail. I learned quite a lot that first summer. When I took several ASA courses the following summer, I discovered that Ed’s instruction helped me considerably. Ed’s experience and confidence have always made me feel safe. I’ve been caught out in three storms with him, and I’ve learned how to handle different situations under his guidance. Now that I have my own boat, I have enlisted him several times to help me get accustomed to it. Each time he comes on board, he teaches me to do something new, which I might not ordinarily do on my own. I highly recommend sailing with Ed Casazza for lessons or charters.

Sail on 4th

Group of 4 of us took charter for the 4th. Sail had a great combination of activities where we experienced sun, clouds, gusts and plenty of fun, sailing under good winds. Captain Ed was very informative and allowed us to take supervised hold on the helm to experience the sea. Snacks were made available to us and we got to see plenty of natures beauty and force, including sheets of falling rain in the distance, a rainbow, gusts to 50 mph + , that caused the sailing boat to keel nicely, bringing excitement to all. Well worth the money.

An Awesome Experience!

Having taken lessons with Captain Ed, and also booking myself and my friends on charters for the day, there has never been a dull moment on board! Learning to sail was a great experience with this calm as a cucumber Captain. He has a natural feel for the wind, the sea and the mechanics of his vessel, the Bella Donna. On July 4th, my friends and I went out on an afternoon charter and experienced all kinds of weather conditions, from winds up to 50 knots, waves up to about 3 feet, and even a beautiful rainbow that formed over the ocean topped off our sailing day! He gave informal lessons to anyone in our group who would like to man the helm, and it was loads of fun and memories. Captain Ed has a wonderful gift of gab, and is willing to share stories of his sailing adventures over his many years of sailing, teaching and long distant sailing journeys. His 1st Mate, a Papillon dog named Mika, was a joy and added treat on our day out. At the end of the day, we moored in the Merrimac River for an on board BBQ and were able to see some armature fireworks along the shore of the river. As we sat on board eating our feast, there were beautiful cloud formations, an almost full moon rising, and a gorgeous sunset over the river. It's amazing how much natural beauty can be experienced on board a sailboat. Taking lessons, or just enjoying the day out on the ocean with your family and friends is highly recommended with Captain Ed's Sailing. Captain Ed is a competent, easy going, profession and personable man and the experience will have long lasting memories and may have you coming back for more!

Pros: A beautiful day out!

Cons: It ends.

Amazing day of sailing

I took a sailing lesson with Captain ED's Sailing in June of 2009. The boat was amazing and Captain Ed was personable and welcoming. After a quick safey overview, I was already cruising out of the harbor and sailing on the ocean. Captain Ed was a calm teacher and taught by simply having me sail. I had an amazing experience and would recommend Captain Ed to any person or family. I cannot praise Captain Ed's Sailing enough!

It was an unexpected but exciting experience. We were going for the normal cruise ride, though we made a reservation for the long cruise, they still bailed on us because the captain was no where to be found. So i wanted a more personal experience, I dig through the pile of fliers and found Captain Ed!! He's done a great job creating a friendship and fun atmosphere for my friend and I. Along with his pal Mika, the very cute entertainer. Along the sail, Captain Ed would tell us his stories, teach us parts of the boat, sail aside the shores, explore the ocean, we probably wouldn't leave the boat if we didn't have any time constraints. But we will be back, for sure. Btw, did i mention he's got some delicious homemade Captain Ed's jam! Ask him! If you want a fun and exciting sailing experience, this is it!
