Tips
- The Extras
Virtually unchanged from its mid-19th-century appearance, the house is crowded with original furniture, books, artwork and the family china.
- Fun Facts
A granite block outside marks the site of the spreading chestnut tree he made famous in his work "The Village Blacksmith." So much for sentiment, however. The tree was cut down and made into the chair that stands just to the right of the fireplace.

I actually have the inside scoop on this place because my father works for the National Park Service and is a Tour guide here at the Longfellow House. If you love Old Colonial Boston architecture, history or poetry, this is the place for you. A beautifully restored home in Cambridge, not far from Harvard Square, the site is a walk back in time to when Longfellow lived there and wrote some of his best known works. The site is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10 am to 4:30 pm and offers tours at various times throughout the day. Admission for persons 17 and older is three dollars. Under 17 and National Park pass holders are free.
