The Beehive: Buzz behind the South End hot spot continues
Jun 10, 2010
There’s no denying the buzz behind The Beehive in Boston’s South End neighborhood.
Opening in May 2007, the restaurant, bar and performance venue has been the hub of all things fab, becoming a hive of activity for the after-work cocktail crowd and, of course, Boston’s weekend warriors.
Taking its name from La Ruche -- "the beehive" in French -- an early 20th-century artists' colony in Paris where the likes of Matisse and Chagall worked and celebrated, The Beehive has been praised for its hipster-chic ambience, festive atmosphere and stellar selection of cocktails.
Nestled below the Boston Center for the Art’s historic Cyclorama in Boston’s South End, The Beehive serves the eclectic fare of Chef Rebecca Newell, rustic comfort foods infused with American, European, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences.
The latest buzz? OpenTable, a free online reservations guest management system for restaurants, announced the national winners of its second annual Diners' Choice awards. Out of some 11,000 restaurants and more than five million reviews submitted by OpenTable diners, The Beehive was awarded, “Best Late Night Finds.”
The short list of 50 favorites was selected from a geographical pool including all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
“It’s always nice when your hard work is acknowledged. My partners and I have worked very hard to create a feel at The Beehive that I think people really enjoy,” says Jack Bardy, co-owner of The Beehive. “This award is driven by real reviews and experiences and we’re honored to be named one of the Top 50 in the country.”
